Sculpture

“As above so below” refers to the ancient mystical knowledge of a universal similarity. From spiral galaxies to hurricane clouds to the whirlpool in your sink, from the superclusters of stars to the neurons in your brain, all processes form self-repeating patterns that mirror the same underlying principles.

A seagull flies over a whale tail, mirroring each other's shape, the flow of water gives it movement and the reflection completes the circle.

It took me two years to complete, a lot of trial and error and taught me many new skills, but now i can call myself a bronze fountain maker.

“Mama” is a modernization of the prehistoric “Venus”-figure, carved during a year from a solid block of merl. 

Her body is big and heavy. Her face and hands are minimal. But she is confident, soft, beautiful and at peace. Her hands support her belly and herself. “Mama” is an ode to motherhood.

The "Vrijmoedigheidsprijs" is an award from platform "Vrijlinks" which promotes secular, progressive, anti-dogmatic free speech. 

I designed a fountian-pen holder as a dragonfly, made by cutlery. Because words have to fly free, difficult subjects have to be cut out, and sometimes the obvious has to be spoon-fed.
